In my early 20s I had a great job interview. The economy was shitty so I was looking forward to going to it. I had a Range Rover p38a on 33″ BFG AT tires, which were great offroad but I had a slow leak from slamming one of the rims into a rock.
On my way to the job interview my bad tire/wheel lost its air. So I changed it BUT I had only 4 33″ tires, the other was the standard 28.x” size tire. I thought it would be fine…. It was not.
The car was underivable, I had to drive to a tire shop that was close and just have them repair the 33″ tire because the car was completely unstable and unhappy with different size tires. The computers were having a fit, the center locker was having a fit, the differentials were upset. It was not good.

One thing many don’t consider, is you can actually add OEM Land Rover Paddle Shifters to 2010-2012 Range Rover L322. I was first made aware of this via an ill titled thread on rangerovers.net.
The only issue with the install is that the L connector from the paddle shifters is the wrong sex to connect to the the wheel connector. There are a few work arounds. The one I would reccomend is using Powerful UK LTD who provides a sex adapter for the Range Rover “Flappy Paddles”. The harder way which is of course the way I choose is to mock up a connector using a small 4 pin computer 3.5″ disk drive power cord shaved down and pressed in very tight. It took a few hours to get the connector just right and I still worry that the connector may loose itself. The best advice I read is to ensure the flappy paddle plus and minus symbols light up with the lights on which will ensure they are wired properly.
While this isn’t the most important Range Rover issue I’ve ever blogged about, I picked up a “Reduce” brand two pack of stainless steel vacuum insulated tumblers. These two cups fit the Range Rover center console perfectly and look good in the car. As in you can use the both cups in the cup holder in the same time.
They have a unique lid with a straw, sip, or gulp option on the same lid, a straw lid is about $10 extra from Yeti. So it may not be Yeti quality but this Costco cup addition comes in at $20 which is very reasonable and a great accessory for every Range Rover 2007-2012 owner.
These cups are great for iced coffee and drinks, Reduce claims a 24 hour cool performance from their stainless steel vacuum double wall construction. In practice you can leave an iced drink in the sun light in your Range Rover, come back after running some errands and come back to a nice cool drink.
UPDATE: After offroading these tires more than 5 times chunks of outer tread are cracked but no damage to sidewall.
I recently picked up a WeatherTech Range Rover Trunk Mat and WeatherTech Headlight Guard Film. I found both of these items on Jet.com, and when I added both items to the cart it dropped the price of the Load Space mat approximately the same price as the Headlight Guard Film, so I happily picked up both. Here is a brief review of each product.
WeatherTech Loadspace Liner
There are actually quite a few options for loadspace liners, or trunk mats for the Range Rover. The WeatherTech is amongst the best but perhaps not as good as the Land Rover loadspace liners which I hear very good things about but they cost more. The WeatherTech liner is much lighter and more flexible than I thought it would be. Apparently the flexibility of the loadspace liner under all temperatures is a design consideration of the USA Based WeatherTech.
The liner itself offers a slightly textured surface with some water trapping grooves, but it they could perhaps be deeper. The sides of the trunk mat are about 2.5″ high, designed to keep water or other spilled liquid on the mat and off of the rest of the trunk.
The trunk mat fits very well, but the Land Rover mats have cut outs for the luggage management net (the bottom one, not the side pockets) which the WeatherTech does not.
The liner although it is flexible seems like it will put up with some abuse but perhaps not as well as a thicker mat. Overall after not having a luggage mat, I much prefer to have one to protect the trunk, especially perhaps the Range Rover trunk with it’s various leather pull straps.
WeatherTech Head Lamp Protection Film
The guards are flexible 40mm film, it was pointed out to me that these films are much thicker than many other offerings. This film offers protection against UV hazing of the plastic headlamps as well as chip and cracking protection with the thick and pliable 40mm film.
The film is a bit difficult to put on by one person. Also needed is a hair dryer or heat gun as the film provisions for the tops of the headlamps which tilt inwards.
A nice feature of this kit is that it is four pieces, including two guards for the low and vulnerable fog-lamps. The foglamp cut outs are quite easy to fit as they are “just circles.”
I don’t really notice a difference in light output from the lamps but I am sure there is some diminution. I don’t notice them too much which is to me a win for this type of product. I am happy that the film should protect the headlamps from UV induced hazing. When off and on highway they seem to provide protection against rocks.
